Field Treasures: Rune Claws, Excalibur II

Steals: Blood Sword from Tiamat (256/256)
Genji Helmet from Kraken (256/256)
Genji Gloves from Lich (256/256)

Before fighting Tiamat, pick up and equip Amarant's Rune Claws. This removes the wind elemental Kaiser Knuckles so that he isn't powerless. Also exchange Zidane's Auto-Life for MP Attack, Accuracy+, and Distract. Phoenix Down and Ether up everyone and head for the eye of the Invincible.

Just like Maliris, Tiamat can also be put to sleep with Soul Blade so do that last with Zidane, then as Zidane's ATB is just shy of 1/4 full, have Steiner Charge first, then Amarant and Freya attack. Do this too soon, Amarant wakes up Tiamat before Zidane can Soul Blade again, too late and the sleep wares off losing that 1.5x damage from sleeping targets. Tiamat has a few party attacks like Jet Fire and Twister so this could take some resets. After the second Soul Blade, Charge then get Zidane to steal the Blood Sword before Amarant and Freya's attacks kill the dragon. Remember, Freya and Zidane and Steiner can achieve critical hits so that is usually what it takes to finish these fights quickly, especially this one where Amarant gives up power to Freya who crits twice in this fight! LOL

Save at the hidden location on the next screen on the right. Next, make your way through a few more screens, likely accepting one encounter on the long screen before the next save point. Before saving, Ether up everyone, give Amarant his Kaiser Knuckles back, equip Freya with the Dragon's Hair and Steiner with the Genji Armor you stole from Maliris. If you want a safer Kraken fight, give the knights the Diamond Gloves and Zidane the Ribbon. Activate Body Temp for Steiner Amarant and Zidane.

Target Time - 11:49:45

Kraken is a tough fight to get right. He has two tentacles that give him access to additional moves, and once they are gone, he has either a Leg attack (also a counter with no tentacles) and Waterga which depending how everyone is equipped will be a reset or rather harmless. What makes this fight the worst is the absurdly high counter rate Kraken has at times. He can even counter steal attempts!

You are looking for Freeze on anyone but Freya since she didn't learn Body Temp. Then it's best to steal the Genji Helm first so Zidane can be a medic after, have Steiner use Charge and hold the ATB once he begins the move. Charge attacks random targets if more than one, and you want to see one tentacle get damaged and Kraken take the rest of the hits, then have Freya use Dragon Breath on Kraken which damages all targets equal to the damage Kraken has been dealt so far (9999 being the max). This ideally kills one tentacle, at least 20000 dealt to the Kraken and two medics on standby. Kraken's biggest exploit is the fact he cannot counter Charge, so make it your main attack weapon. If you want to attack with Freya and Amarant separately, beware those counters. An Ether may be needed on Steiner before the battle is over if you need a 3rd Charge!

I spent a whole day on this one fight, and I didn't use water-nulling equipment. That's how tricky-dicky this fight can get. Once this fight is won, revive and Ether up everyone and breathe a sigh of relief once you save at the hidden point in the corner of the Time Warp screen. That was the last hurdle in the challenge, but one fight left to claim the Excalibur II...

Target Time - 11:57:00

Simply advance the next scene and climb a couple ladders to Lich's chamber.
With weaknesses to Wind AND Holy, Amarant and Freya will deal close if not 9999 per attack! (nice crit, Zidane) including their turns during Charge, two rounds will do the job. Just don't forget to steal those Genji Gloves. This last segment should not take no longer than 2:45, leaving you a few seconds to save before picking up your long awaited prize.

So looking at my final IGT, I have 22 minutes to spare, but add back in all of the time from random encounters I got to negate in Fossil Roo (5), Iifa Tree (5), Desert Palace (3), plus 7 minutes tops for the Alexandria escape + Athlete Queen races, and there is still room to give, so you have to play it close to the vest if you go the Robe of Lords on Disc 1 route.

This brings to a close my vision of Monkeyslinger's Combined Stats run that got me interested to come back for one last hurrah with the Excalibur II Perfect Game. If you are reading this, thanks for helping out with note clarifications. I hope you enjoy how this turned out!

I might add some more comments here later but this is good at the moment!
