I’m a huge fan of From Software and the Soulsborne series in general, but I’ve always had a soft spot for Demon’s Souls in particular.

There’s just something about its dark, oppressive atmosphere that for me makes it a very special experience.

What’s also very special about Demon’s Souls is its first proper level, known as the Gates of Boletaria.

It’s an area which I think encapsulates everything that makes the game, and indeed the series, so fantastic, and in this video I examine it in more detail, looking at everything from its level design and storytelling to its combat and boss encounter.
