Exploring Nicolas Cage's Perspective on Memeification and His Connection to 'Dream Scenario' TIFF23
Nicolas Cage is no stranger to the internet's obsession with his face and voice. He has been the subject of countless memes, gifs, and videos over the years. But the Oscar-winning actor says he doesn't mind being a meme, as long as it's done with respect and humor. "I think it's a form of flattery, really," he told reporters at the Toronto International Film Festival, where his latest film, Dream Scenario, premiered. "It shows that people are paying attention and that they find something interesting or funny about me."
Dream Scenario is a dark comedy that follows Cage as he plays a fictionalized version of himself, who gets kidnapped by a superfan and forced to reenact scenes from his most iconic movies. Cage said he was drawn to the project because it was a "meta" and "self-referential" exploration of his career and persona. "It was a chance to poke fun at myself and also pay homage to some of the films that I'm proud of," he said. "It was a dream scenario for me, no pun intended."
