Welcome to Extreme Trucks 2, a game that features, not surprisingly, both trucks and the act of their being extreme. Despite the name though, this is not quite a racing game, but rather more of a stunt-driven side-scroller that pits you against the environment. But let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Upon first glance, the game might certainly look to be your average racer that has you traveling across a twisted and complicated landscape. It does make a good show of itself, and the general feel and aesthetic of the game is quite pleasing.

The levels can get a bit repetitive after some time, but for the most part they are rather well designed. A nice background gives you some great ambiance for the game, and the level design makes great use of its graphics providing a detailed and clear environment for the game. Tiny details are all present, small plants growing out of the desert sand, rubble being kicked back by your tires as you move along, rope bridges that include well-drawn and detailed rope, and so on and so forth.

Of particular note is the detail that's gone into the design of the truck. The suspension animates nicely, the wheels turn properly, and the overall body of your truck looks rather spiffy. You won't be seeing any other designs unfortunately, as the game only outfits you with the one truck.

Of slightly weaker fare though might be the audio. There's not much music to speak of, and the constant revving of your engine can grate on the ears after some time. Still, what audio is present is well-done, so it's not quite so bad.

The controls are fairly easy to master, with little more than back and forward, with additional controls to manage the balance and angle of your truck. These are all managed with the arrow keys, so you don't need to learn any special controls to play the game. Getting the balancing aspect (pressing left and right) can be a bit tricky at first, especially when making long jumps. Still, the controls are very intuitive, and your trucks is very responsive so it shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes to get the hang of things.

As aforementioned, the game is pretty easy to get the hang of. The levels are pretty simply constructed, but still challenging enough to be some fun. For the most part, the levels are start at point A, and get to point B. Behind this simple premise though, are some fun twists and turns. As you're racing against the clock, you have to balance caution with speed, something which (if you're not careful) can get you crushed, send you plummeting to your demise, or landing on your truck's hood. The levels are constructed such that there's rarely ever a straight path between checkpoints. You'll experience sudden drops that hide bottomless pits, difficult ramps where you need to time your momentum perfectly, long stretches of water that will slow you down, and so on and so forth.

All in all, Extreme Trucks 2 is a fun little game that's worth checking out. Granted, it's a bit short, but it's great fun while it lasts.
