Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut is a dream movie, a fairy tale, a satire, a horror film, and a love story all at once. Its ambiguous ending has been debated for decades—was it a critique of capitalism and the ruling elite, a dark tale of sacrifice and corruption, or a hopeful story of intimacy and honesty between a husband and wife?
In this video, I dive into the final chapter of my year-long exploration of Kubrick’s last film. From fairy-tale allusions and surreal dream logic to the unsettling symbolism of Helena’s disappearance, I explore how Eyes Wide Shut embodies both cynicism and hope, fear and liberation. Ultimately, the film challenges us to ask: what is real, what is a dream, and what do we choose to see?
This is the conclusion of a project that has taken me over a year to complete—and I believe Kubrick himself would have wanted nothing less than for us to keep questioning.
