F1 2000 (2000) - Every PC F1 Game
0F1 2000 by ISI/Electronic Arts, 2000.
This was Image Space Incorporated's first attempt at a Formula 1 game, and it built upon their earlier Sports Car GT engine. I'm playing the game on keyboard, as my G27 wheel wasn't recognised.
1. Race Start (Monza): 0:00 The computer controlled cars seem to enjoy a massive pile-up at Monza, even on 100% difficulty! I tried to make it through as best I could...
2. Spray Effects (Silverstone): 0:40 This first game from EA of 2000 had no wet weather (something that was added in the later F1 Championship Season 2000 game), so here's the section with no spray. The overly aggressive level-of-detail renders the cars as paper-like models (with no reflections) until they're very close to the camera.
3. Tunnel & View (Monaco): 0:52 The 3D model of the Monaco track is fairly boxy looking.
4. Wet Track (Spa-Francorchamps): 1:09 The track modelling of Spa-Francorchamps is possibly one of the worst models of the track ever. It was so bad that they boasted about re-doing it in the later game F1 Championship Season 2000! There's no wet weather in this first game from EA, so it's in the dry. Enjoy the terrible track modelling!
5. Pitstop (Interlagos): 1:28 The pitstop approach here is mixed; it locks you in-car, but allows you to drive manually into the pits (meaning you can overshoot and drive through your mechanics - though nothing happens to them!). This is another of the games where the damage is fixed first (broken front wing) before the tyres are changed. It seems rather a long stop, all things considered!
6. Huge Crash (Montreal): 2:13 Crashes on this game can be reasonably fun (including flips). I think Alesi's Prost car has something against me though...!
