F1 2001 (2001) - Every PC F1 Game
0F1 2001 by ISI/Electronic Arts, 2001.
This was the first game using a new 3D engine, which would later evolve into the engine that powered rFactor. It all feels much more modern, compared to the Sports Car GT derived F1 2000 titles previously from ISI. Interestingly, this game allows you to run any resolution (e.g. here at 1920x1440), where F1 2002 and F1 Challenge '99-'02 have a maximum resolution of 1600x1200 (without hacking game files)).
1. Race Start (Monza): 0:00 The computer controlled cars seem a bit slow off the line (especially if one or more of them stalls). They enjoy shoving you in corners too, but are fast after the chicane.
2. Spray Effects (Silverstone): 0:39 Spray effects are much less intense than F1 Championship Season 2000, but as every car now has spray, it looks a bit better, even if the spray disappears quickly.
3. Tunnel & View (Monaco): 0:55 Monaco now feels much less boxy than F1 Championship Season 2000. There's also a faux HDR lighting effect as you enter and exit the tunnel!
4. Wet Track (Spa-Francorchamps): 1:13 This looks suitably gloomy, with big huge rain drops flying everywhere. They did drop the reflective road surface, which was seen on F1 Championship Season 2000, though. My driving is a bit lairy here!
5. Pitstop (Interlagos): 1:33 Pitstops actually allow you to drive up to the pitcrew from the behind-the-car view, then the somewhat-jittery pitcrew service you! It then pops you into into cockpit view briefly, before swapping back to the outside view on pit exit. The most noticable thing here is how the pitcrew changed my front wing in no time at all! As soon as it swapped to the panning view, my missing wing was back!
6. Huge Crash (Montreal): 1:50 Crashes in this can be dramatic, with big flips. However, the car body isn't damaged or split, you only lose wheels, wings, etc.
