F1 2018 - AOR Season 16 Round 21 - UAE - Why Did I Even Bother?
Round 21 of Apex Online Racing AOR Season 16. Round 21 takes place in the United Arab Emirates at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. I am racing in the PS4 A3 League.
This video was live streamed as the race happened. Coming off my best result of the season in Brazil, I entered the final race with little to gain as I had already secured P6 in the championship. As a consequence I did not put as much time into practicing as I should have done which turned out to be costly in the race itself. This is another race where drivers have a few options available with regards to tyre strategies. A one stop Ultrasoft-Supersoft is the safest way to go but a quick driver could pull off a two stop Hypersoft-Ultrasoft-Ultrasoft strategy. With little to play for, I was going to run the more risky two stop strategy hoping to have more race pace seeing as you can overtake at this circuit.
Due to a network issue, we had to run the qualifying session twice. In the end I secured P5 on the grid but I was also the meat in the sandwich of the two title rivals starting in front and behind me. The start was a disaster as I had to go off the track to avoid hitting Irregj. I lost three places on the opening lap and going into lap 2, my race ended at turn 3 when I took too much curb and spun off putting the car into the wall and ending my race. The upside to retiring early is that I had front row seats to the climax of the championship battle between Owneole and Portuguese. Who would come out on top and take the championship? Have a look and see.
UAE Goals:
Qualifying - Qualify in the top 5. (Pass)
Race - Finish on the podium. (Fail)
Qualifying starts straight away.
Race starts at 24:50.
