F1 INSIGHT: NEW REGULATIONS
Formula 1’s new regulations may not have delivered the expected lap time reduction - with Lewis Hamilton’s pole position time in Melbourne just over 1.6 seconds faster than his 2016 equivalent; a long way off the promised 3-6 seconds a lap drop.
But one way the new regulations did pass muster - was on the far tougher physical challenge, which pushed the drivers to the limit. The higher average cornering speeds pushed g-forces higher than ever - with the drivers, including Haas’ Romain Grosjean, having to up already-tough pre-season training routines to cope with almost 8G.
