In the year 2000, game designer Will Wright was already famous for his best-selling city management series Sim City as well as the whole line of deep, yet quirky simulation games his company Maxis had put out during the 1990s. But in February of that year, Wright would unveil a new game that he had been creating, on and off, for nine years, a game that would redefine the nature of simulation games and spawn one of the best selling game franchises of all time: The Sims

Named after the little humanoids who could be seen in previous games inhabiting Sim City, The Sims was a breakout hit that cemented itself in the hearts and minds of PC gamers via several means, including a remarkable personality system to portray relationships between Sims and several interconnected mechanics to make keeping your Sim happy a challenge. But what endeared the game to me personally was the charm and imagination displayed in the game's Buy Mode, in which acres of flavor text were used to really sell the idea of a midcentury modern shopper's paradise where comfort and features were king and the only limit was the depth of your wallet.

Those item descriptions are still what I remember best about The Sims more than two decades after I first played it, and so appropriately enough, it's those very item descriptions that I'm here to share with you today!

By the way, if you'd like to check out the full range of Buy Mode products for yourself, there's a very cool video by a channel called BarakaPlay which shows each one in turn, as well as all the Build Mode items. You can find it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlTD2q_aLjM

Thanks for watching, and I'll see you next file!
