Factor D is quite perhaps one of the most unique fighting games I've ever covered in this channel. Originally released in May 2022 by Jose Omar Carrizo (as "SSJIN3 Games"), Factor D takes a turn-based approach where you use button combinations in lieu of standard movement.
In Factor D, there are several actions you could do in your turn, each of which working differently (the game would pause until you or the opponent takes action). For example, standard attacks (marked by the fist icon) are done by pressing either J, K, or L (the “attack buttons”) during specific intervals in a sequence within each turn. Meanwhile, when it’s the opponent’s turn, you must defend against their attacks using either A, S, or D (the “defense buttons”). You must press each defense button where any of the attack icons appear to block the opponents attacks.
Attacks in this game include normal attacks, in which you press each attack button as quickly as possible (as otherwise each individual attack will be blocked by the opponent), and a barrage of attacks, which appears in some turns and is indicated by an icon containing multiple fists. This special attack appears in one of the three attack buttons where you simply tap the attack button repeatedly within a limited time frame - more presses would result in more hits.
Within each turn, you could also charge up your meter (indicated by the large blast icon), with each charge filling up a portion of meter. When your meter is full, not only would your normal attacks deal more damage, but also you could do a super attack (indicated by the icon with a “S” symbol). When performing a super attack, you must try to mash faster than the opponent before the attack hits - pressing more buttons during this interval would result in your super attack dealing more damage.
Other attack-related mechanics include the ability to do an automatic combo if you do enough standard attacks, in addition to a “burst” mechanic that stops any more attacks from the opponent (within the turn) if you block attacks enough times.
In the game’s arcade mode, you fight against CPU-only opponents and other playable characters, with additional upgrades being available after defeating your opponent. These upgrades include (but are not limited to) increasing your health, increasing damage, increasing the amount of meter you gain upon charging, and reducing the amount of needed attacks to do an automatic combo. The “special mode” setting further adjusts your base stats (including health, damage output, meter gain) to be different from each character, as otherwise they are the same throughout all characters.
