Yatagarasu: Attack on Cataclysm is the sequel to Yatagarasu, released around July 2015 by Circle Edge/PDW Hotapen (now going by "Yatagarasu dev team") after a successful Indiegogo fundraiser. This sequel game features a new story alongside more characters, balance changes, and an official English localization complete with additional commentators (both from popular English-speaking FGC figureheads, as well all the playable cast). Attack on Cataclysm would later receive an updated re-release in the form of Enter the Eastward, released around February 2024, which added more playable characters and balance changes.

The game personally feels like an updated re-release, with the game's slow-paced footsies-and-parrying gameplay being intact alongside very few notable additions in terms of mechanics (of course outside of the aforementioned balance changes). One that I could think of is how the game basically does a small screenshot when you punish counter the opponent (and vice versa), showing how exactly you were countered and therefore encouraging you to be more careful.

The game's input buffer system feels weird - sometimes I couldn't get special moves out on time, and that proceeded to somewhat ruin my experience. Not helping things was the fact that I had to re-record this playthrough due to quality issues in the original video, which basically made me feel these issues even further. Input issues aside, while the soundtrack and stages aren't anything special, I like the spritework in this game, and Yatagarasu in general is pretty fun to play. Movement in footsies-oriented games like this one is pretty good, and using Crow's Super 2 ("Kasanejumonji Kujigarasu", 214214K) in combos is fun to do when I'm not fighting against the game's input system.
