s the process of writing a polynomial as a product of two polynomials, one of which is a monomial that factors each term of the polynomial.
A monomial is an expression that is the product of constants and nonnegative integer powers of x, like 3x^2. A polynomial is a sum of monomials.
The GCF (greatest common factor) of two or more monomials is the product of all their common prime factors. For example, the GCF of 6x6x6, x and 4x^24x24, x, squared is 2x2x2, x.
To understand how to factor out common factors, we must understand the distributive property.
First method: Detailed GCF
Second Method: Direct Division
The common factor in a polynomial does not have to be a monomial.
