We have never targeted Gar Pike on Georgian Bay in the fall before. Usually we fish them in the spring in shallow bays with minnow and a bobber or surface swimbaits. Gar pike can be seen scissoring on top of the water on warm summer days. In the fall they transition deep often in 60-100 fow. We challenged ourselves to target the species in the fall and see if we could get one to bite!
We had difficulty keeping them pinned with their boney mouths. The fish would often get tangled in the line and or wrapped and be reeled in sideways.
