This video shows that beds may mysteriously become unassigned. Over time, my Tenpines Bluff settlement has suffered a net loss of 2 bed assignments, while no changes have been made to the beds, nor have any settlers been relocated. Assigning settlers to supply lines doesn't change the population nor bed assignments either. The only way I can remove bed assignments myself is by relocating settlers or scrapping the beds. Moving a settler from one bed to another does not change the net number of assigned beds. With all of the above considered, the only way I lose bed assignments that I can think of is that the game mysteriously unassigns them.
