Do you have what it takes to become Overseer? Great! Head over to Vault 51 and a Homicidal AI known as ZAX with help you settle into your job. But there's always a catch. Turns out 51 other people showed up too and started punching each other, But there can be only one Overseer, So a fight to the death is the only way to solve this unfortunate application process. Welcome To Nuclear Winter!

Nuclear Winter for Fallout 76 is a 52 player Battle-Royale mode that is free for Fallout 76 players and is the first update released for the Nuclear Winter DLC. The Mode features the opening of Vault 51 and brings a new story, exclusive rewards for use in adventure mode as well as caps and XP progress in adventure mode. Released on June 10, 2019, the mode underwent a sneak peek trial alongside a free week. But because of its popularity, Bethesda decided to keep it in indefinitely.

Nuclear Winter starts you inside Vault 51 which is basically the lobby. From there the player is free to explore, punch people and uncover the story. However multiple areas of the vault, Holotapes and terminals containing parts of the story are locked off until the player reaches the level to unlock these areas (The highest being LV 105). The player can also use the Atom shop to favourite skins for use in Nuclear Winter as well as looking and changing their perk cards.

Nuclear Winter's Perk card system is different from Adventure Mode with the cards being unique to the mode and cannot be used outside it. Players start out with one card for each SPECIAL, but they can have multiple cards of one SPECIAL only if they have enough points (eg. if you have a strength of 11 then you can have multiple cards that can add up to 11). Only seven slots are available and there are 70 different cards to pick from and yes, unfortunately, you can get duplicates.

Once deployed onto the map, The player will need to collect weapons, armour and explosives to survive. Items like magazines, bobblehead and drugs can be used to give the player a temporary boost either in damage or enhancing abilities. Every time the clock runs out the storm (Known as the Ring Of Fire) with move in destroying anything in its way. The player can use the C.A.M.P. building system to create temporary bases to use as a defence against other players and also AI creatures who if killed depending on the difficulty will drop random supplies.

The Final weapon players can use against each other is Nukes. Four nuclear launch codes and a nuclear Briefcase is needed to launch one anywhere on the map. If a player is caught inside the blast zone they will die immediately. This makes nukes extremely powerful during the last stages of a match as the blast zone could take up the entire circle leaving no alternative but to flee into the storm.

The Nuclear Winter DLC will also include (To Be Announced)

1. Vaults 94 and 96 with officially open presenting a challenge for high-level veteran characters
2. A new Prestige system. Players above level 50 can become Legendary, resetting characters, while receiving new and more powerful abilities.
