Fallout Lore: Vault 96
4Vault 96 can be entered via Daily Ops or as an instance by traveling to the entrance. The walk up to Vault 96 is quite ominous, it always seems to be dusk or dark around the area of the vault. Climbing the stairs we head to the security booth. Upon checking the security computer we see there is an emergency state and normal acess into the vault has been suspended. Only Vault-tec certified emergency response team leaders may over ride the security protocols. Well it seems as if they have over ridden the door as we find it open, we walk through the door.
Vault 96 is a baren icey wasteland, terminals lit from light above beckon to us to check what has gone on here. We find an overview of the system, congratulating us in using the vault-tec emergency management system. Other documents on the termainl detail how to use the emergency manegment system. Next Protocol XC-243 details experimental containment used to collect and analyse gentic samples of what I can imagine is organic material. Another protocol AV-992 details a mainframe virus that can be used to monitor, detect, observe and respond to viral intrusions with simple virus’ being eliminated upon detection.
We delve deeper and find out that Vault 96 is less of a Vault and more of a protocol, with Vault 96 being used as a sort of Noah’s ark for the atomic age with creatures being kept under ice and other being experimented on. Once Vault 96 has been sealed the staff of the vault will consist of 5 scientific specialists. The overall purpose of Vault 96 is to conduct genetic experiments on mutations that may be present in the wasteland due to the great war, all results of these experiments will be transmitted via satellite to external facilities. If any vault personnel in vault 96 doesnt perform adequaltely then they wil be terminated.
After one month of inhabiting the vault, robots will peridically collet samples of surface creatures for preservation and further study.
Next to the terminals we find a holotape containing information about a Vault 96 community meeting, lets listen on…
The holotape confirms what we already knew from reading the documents on the terminals. The five scientists locked in this gruesome fate were:
Erik DeMarcos - Overseer, chief software developer
Jeanette Higgins - Chief robotics technician
Hans Memling - Chief engineer
Nina Valaya - Chief researcher
Molly Cooper - Chief biologist
All in all, this vault is by far not the worst in the wasteland or in Fallout lore but it is quite a horrific one, at present the vault is not open and you cannot gain access to its lower levels, but im sure when it does open it will be filled with experiments of hideous creatures we have to get through to learn more about this vault.
