Fallout New Vegas Still in the Dark part 2 of 8 Scouts
12Still in the Dark is started upon your first visit to the Hidden Valley Bunker and Paladin Ramos confronts you.
To keep things simple, recruit Veronica before heading to Hidden Valley. Veronica is at the 188 Trading Post on the road north-west out of Boulder City. Without Veronica, you'll have your gear confiscated and be fitted with an explosive collar. To remove the collar you'll be forced to get rid of an NCR Ranger in another Hidden Valley bunker. The ranger can be killed, have his radio smashed or booby trapped, or be convinced to leave with +50 speech.
After the collar deal, the quest plays out the same for everyone.
Elder McNamara will ask you to retrieve the holotapes of three Brotherhood patrols.
The closest patrol is north-east of Hidden Valley and south of Black Mountain. It is easy to reach if you've discovered Scorpion Gulch during the Missing Laser Pistol unmarked quest. Just wipe out a few centaurs and retrieve the tape from a corpse in a radioactive crater.
The next nearest tape is at REPCONN Headquarters. The issue is that the facility is rigged with security robots. You can do things the hard way and battle to the third floor to find the patrol was taken out by a collapsing ceiling. If you want to be more subtle or want looting information, refer to:

The last tape is in the Nellis artillery firing range. It may be a good idea to make first contact with the Boomers before attempting to reach the patrol bodies. To reach the Nellis front gate, stick to a north-western approach to their fence. Use turbo to out run artillery fire or hide against the high walls of buildings until they need to reload. Once the Boomers agree to stop shooting, look for the corpses of the patrol. The artillery shells may have sent them flying, but they usually get snagged against cars or walls.
When you deliver the bad news to the Elder, he'll ask you to venture out again to fetch three scout reports. This objective is pretty easy. The NCRCF scout is not too far from the facility; circle around to meet him. The Nipton scout is on a cliff north of town; a bit of a walk but not tricky to reach. The Camp Forlorn Hope guy is like the Nipton in that he's only a short walk away on a high ledge.
With the report in his hands, McNamara sends you to Knight Lorenzo who will instruct you fetch three air ventilation system components, each in a separate Vault.
The HEPA Filters are within Vault 22. It is a good idea to fetch them at same time that you do the quests There Stands the Grass and Bleed Me Dry. To reach them, you need 50 repair to fix the elevator. Ride the lift to the fifth sublevel and go up the stairs on your left to the cave system linking levels 3 and 5. The filters are in the 3rd level part of the caves. Without 50 repair, you'll have to find a keycard on a metals shelf in the a bedroom on the 4th level and enter the caves on the 3rd level. The Reverse Pulse Cleaner is in Vault 3, home of the Fiends. You can go in guns blazing or use a speech check or Great Khan armor to be able to waltz to the throne room of Fiend leader Motor-Runner. The device is in a locker in the same room as Motor.
The Differential Pressure Control is in a flooded section of Vault 11. The Vault is not very dangerous; it only contains mantises and rats (and some robots, but the robots are completely optional). A notable item is a Pugilism Illustrated in the female dorm. It is hidden against a knocked over dresser. There is also a mini nuke in a security station.
Vault 11 has an unmarked quest concerning its macabre democracy. Access the terminal at the entrance to kick off the unmarked quest. Find the atrium to reach the Overseer's password in a podium. Use the password to descend to the sacrificial chamber beneath the Overseer office. Watch the slide show and brace yourself for a turret and robot ambush afterward. Wipe them out with pulse grenades or a high damage yield wep. Access the Vault's mainframe and download its recordings to gain 500xp.
Return to Lorenzo and then report to McNamara for a quest complete.
