Faselei! - Neo Geo Pocket (1999)
I'm not sure how to feel about this yet because I'm pretty sure you have to play somewhat deep into this to really feel out its mechanics. I can see some amazing graphics and at least a detailed story, though I obviously can't attest as to whether or not it's good. I'm also unsure how I feel about the mechanics because it plays like a mix between chess and a tactical RPG like Fire Emblem. I totally get the need to make individual steps such as rotating as a turn, but it feels cumbersome to issue commands rather than freewalk.
Turns out, critics were a bit iffy on this too with reviews ranging pretty wildly from middling to great. I can't imagine that this isn't a bad choice for a TRPG fan, but non-fans might be turned off and that might be where the spread comes from.
