Tecmo's Fatal Frame series is one of the most successful and original horror game franchises out there. Four titles have been released since 2001 (three in the US) with another rumored to be in development. Eschewing standard combat and grotesque monsters for traditional Japanese-style ghosts who can only be exorcised with the powers of the mysterious Camera Obscura, these games are probably the closest thing in look and feel to a Japanese horror film you can find on a console.

Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly follows twin sisters Mio and Mayu who lose their way in the woods and find themselves trapped in a spectral village from the region's past. While at first the two girls merely seek to escape, things take a turn for the twisted as more of the village's secrets are unearthed.
