In this chapter, Rei Kurosawa attempts to break the seals on the door to the Shrine Courtyard. Following bloodstains from the Spirit Tree Garden, she is attacked by the spirits of Shrine Carpenters, who were murdered and made into Sacrificial Pillars. Their killers, the Moriya builders, also died, and their sacrifices sealed the door. Rei tracks them down to the Hall with Tatami, the Futon Room, the Stairs Hallway and the Foyer.

Returning to the Spirit Tree Garden, Rei finds one last seal remaining on the double doors. Tengai Narumi appears behind her, warning her not to open the doors. Rei wakes up in the middle of the night, and receives a phonecall from a woman who says, "I should have died..."
