We are finally at the final stretch here with Fatal Frame in the last two chapters.
The 3rd night is by far the most challenging chapter in the entire game, here you're basically going through a boss rush in having to fight the 4 Shinto priests along with the family master so you can be able to open the underground area to proceed. These bosses require a lot of patience and being able to get the patterns down since these bosses tend to either throw projectiles at you or go around the screen to sneak up on you. It helps to be able to save a few stones so you can stun them to get a good hit on them even better if you catch them in the middle of a close shot. The other mini-boss near the Shinto priest isn't too bad either so long as you keep your distance from her and just hit her with a few critical shots. This is pretty much where I start using the 70mm film until the final boss.
The final chapter Kirie is surprisingly not too bad since the final boss is pretty simple to beat for the most part. All you really do here is just go pick up the hairpin and another piece of the mirror then you encounter Kirie. Here you gotta run away from her or else its instant death although once you make it outside she stops following you. It's very straightforward from here since all you really do is just go to the underground area, walk in a straight path (pick up the 90mm film since it's the only one you get in the entire game).
Afterward, you just fight a few enemies including the rope women which are easy to defeat then you make it to the big doors, and there you have your final showdown with Kirie. Kirie is pretty easy to beat for the most part as long as you keep your distance from her for the most (you'll get an instadeath screen if you don't have a stone to take a life for you) and just shoot her as soon as you can do a critical shot since that's the only way she'll take damage. 90mm makes this a lot easier to take her down and shes defeated in at least 4 to 5 shots if you aim correctly. There might be a few times where she shakes the screen but don't lose your sight of Kirie because that could mean life or death.
Once she's defeated we get the true ending which has Miku and Mafayu surviving but sadly Kirie ends up alone suffering (there's a much happier version of this in the Xbox version). This ending isn't canon because of fatal frame 3 so the definitive ending is the one we see in normal mode.
I ended up with an S rank under 4 hours which means we get the special costume 2 and None function which gives us unlimited ammo. Overall I'm pretty happy with my run of nightmare mode despite a few mistakes but I liked the challenge and the game itself is just as scary as playing it for the first time. It definitely is one of my favorite horror games by far and I'm really looking forward to getting into Fatal Frame 2 again and hopefully finally finish 3 and the others.
