Do you know the story of the Lone Wolf, Terry Bogard?

Interestingly, SNK decided to retell the story of the original Fatal Fury on the Hyper Neo Geo 64, and brought along several new faces along for the ride. Of note, characters introduced in 2 and 3 such as Mai, Kim, and Yamazaki are present this time around, along with the two newcomers Tsugumi and Touji. The PS1 port goes the extra mile and also includes Duckie and "Mr. Karate" as well!

While the conversion isn't as pretty as the Hyper NG 64 original, there's some pretty interesting stuff going on here, especially with its extra CG cutscenes and characters. The game itself is also a neat experiment with Fatal Fury as a 3D fighter, even prior to the Maximum Impact games. Honestly, I feel like MI takes a good chunk of inspiration from this game mechanically between its sidestep and Stylish Action mechanics. (There's also the fact that MI is based heavily around South Town.)

Overall, Wild Ambition feels a bit like Fatal Fury 3 in that it's got some really interesting presentation, but the gameplay itself definitely feels very experimental and not quite as tight as 2/Special or the Real Bouts. Still, it's rather fun, especially if you enjoy the IP. I would've liked to have seen a more refined Wild Ambition down the road!
