Eiji and Sho's Ryuuseikyaku is absolutely busted and I'm all for it.

Since the Story Mode ended up being a lot shorter (and easier) than I remember, I figured I'd mess around with the arcade-style mode. So if the last vid wasn't enough Toushinden for you, then here you go!

Y'know, as far as janky fighters go, I really do enjoy playing Toushinden. Call it Stockholm syndrome if you will, but over the years, I've come to appreciate a lot of stuff about this game:

First and foremost, the music is really, really good. Like, crazy good. IIRC T's Music contributed to this game, and then went on to contribute to Eretzvaju/Evil Zone, which also had some insanely good music.

In regards to gameplay, the game kinda reminds me of some of the earlier SNK fighters in that it can be absolutely snapped in half if you know what you're doing. Of note, there's the standing Weak Slash into standing Strong Slash into down-forward Strong Slash chain I use throughout the vid, which does some pretty solid damage, and it doesn't even require you to know how to do special moves. You can sometimes even cancel a close-standing Strong Slash into a far-standing Strong Slash, or a series of Weak Slashes into a Strong Slash for some variety. Also of note, you can do special moves on wakeup, such as using Eiji's (Weak) Hishouzan to get an opponent off of you if they're too close.

Oh, and of course there's Toushinden's signature jank special moves. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that some special moves hit way more times than they honestly should, like Eiji's Ryuuseikyaku (the divekick) or Duke's Southern Cross (the charging attack that hit me over 9,000 times).

... honestly, the more I write about why I like this game, I feel like I'm writing about the original Fatal Fury. Huuuh.

Played on Sega Saturn, Normal difficulty.
