Not being able to see the monsters in advance feels oddly disorienting in a game where you normally take that for granted. More than if there were just random encounters in the first place, because you know they're not random.
Doesn't last very long, though. I don't think I actually remembered the mirror being over there, so maybe it was just luck finding it so quickly.
In any case, for all that I like the idea of field actions and weapon swapping to use different abilities, the game... hasn't really used them all that much or all that well? The axe swing hasn't done anything meaningful since we first got it, the sword is only now doing something and it's weirdly arbitrary, bombable walls are unremarkable, the claw is situational and feels like it could just as easily have been a passive ability, and even jumping's more of a once in a while thing than a constant feature.
