This works on all versions of Final Fantasy VII.

Countless times, I have seen people struggle with finding Ultimate Weapon after fighting him the first time on the world map. This video tutorial explains how to skip the hunt part altogether.

Contrary to popular belief, Ultimate Weapon will not eventually head to one of the 7 possible battle locations (Midgar, Fort Condor, Gongaga, Northern Crater; Mideel, Nibelheim, Corel) if one just waits long enough. Instead, until he is rammed between 4 and 6 times, his movement will be a random walk. After any battle, he respawns over the Junon Crater though. So, if one rushes there fast enough, one might be lucky to still find him somewhere in its proximity. If one happens to see him, one needs to crash into him between 4 and 6 times before he determines the next battle location and flies to it in a straight line.

Obviously, there are other ways of not having to search for Ultimate Weapon than the one highlighted in the video. If you happen to have Knights of the Round materia already, using it once will almost certainly deal enough damage to prompt the final Ultimate Weapon battle too. However, getting KotR in the first place takes some time, and the setup in this video is fairly minimalist. All you need is Double Cut materia (is acquired in the Northern Room of the Gelnika) and a character who can deal 9999HP of damage certainly. Yuffie equipped with the Conformer (is acquired in the same room as the Double Cut materia) is a prime choice for that. Hero Drinks, if necessary, can be found in Icicle Inn (x1) and the Northern Cave (x2) or won from Chocobo Racing. The W-Item Materia, if necessary, is collected in Midgar Disk2 or dug up in Bone Village afterwards.

Using this technique to make Ultimate Weapon head for Cosmo Canyon quickly has its use in speedruns. Nonetheless, it might be desirable to fight Ultimate Weapon additional times since one can steal Circlets in aerial battles and Reflect Rings in ground battles.
