In this episode, I show how I am currently collecting Materia so that I can upgrade my relic to the Novus.

I craft a bunch of equipment from level range 45-55, meld one rank 1 materia to them then head to South Shroud, Urths Gift and farm monsters until they hit Spiritbond 100%. When this happens you are given the option to Convert them to Materia should you have the ability unlocked by collecting the quest detailed here:
Quest: Forging the Spirit NPC: Swynbroes
Central Thanalan - Black Brush -The Bonfire (X:23, Y:13)

This is the cheapest and most effective way of gathering the required materia because currently, demand is so high on all servers that prices have skyrocketed. It is also a great way of making Gil as you can sell excessive or non-required materia on the market board.

I also recommend that should you find yourself with materia with 1,000 Gil or less, then use Materia Transmutation to have a good chance of combining 5 of these cheap Materia into something worthwhile for increased profit. This not guaranteed but can be a highly profitable practice.
