스트리트 파이터 EX 시리즈와 파이팅 EX 레이어의 등장인물
고무술을 전승하는 미즈가미 가문의 본가 당주 아들로 여동생인 호쿠토와 나나세가 있다. 덧붙여서 이 미즈가미 가문에서 사용하는 고무술은 가이가 사용하는 무신류와도 밀접한 관계가 있는데, 동생인 호쿠토가 무신류의 혈통을 이었다는 사실은 확인되었으나, 미즈가미 가문과 카이리 그리고 무신류와의 구체적 관계에 대해서는 정확한 언급이 없으며 샤도루 연구소에서도 밝혀지지 않았다.

분가 당주인 호쿠토의 아버지에게 패배해 낭떠러지로 떨어져 모든 기억을 잃어버리게 되고 유일하게 기억 한편에 남아있는 "그대, 몸으로 단련해야 하느니"란 말을 실마리로 잃어버린 기억 대신 얻은 귀신의 기를 몸에 두르고 수라의 길을 나서며 싸움을 반복하면 기억을 찾을 것이라 믿고 싸움을 벌인 덕분에 온 몸이 상처투성이가 되고 한쪽 눈을 잃어 지금의 모습이 되었다. 이후 피의 봉인이 풀린 호쿠토와 대치해 다시금 낭떠러지로 떨어지게 된다.

이후에는 고우키가 그를 거두어 치료해준다.(고우키가 그를 치료해준 이유는 그도 살의의 파동에 눈을 뜰 수 있다는 것을 알았기 때문이다.) 이 때 모든 기억을 되찾았고 죽음의 공포에 각성, 머리가 백발이 되어버리고 이후 피의 봉인이 풀리면서 쫓아오는 암살자들과의 싸움에서 살아남기 위해 전보다 더한 수라도를 걷는다. 그 후 함께 수라도를 헤친 고우키와 EX 스토리 종료 후 싸워 살아남은 걸로 보면 상당한 실력자인 모양이다. 자신을 절벽으로 떨어뜨린 호쿠토에 대한 증오는 덤으로, 끝내 나나세까지 말려든 이 남매 싸움의 결말은 화해하는 엔딩과 어느 한쪽이 쓰러지는 엔딩이 캐릭터 및 시리즈에 따라서 제각각 다르기에 최소한 작품 내에선 결과를 알 수 없게 되었다.

분가 당주의 야심 하나 때문에 삶이 개막장으로 꼬인 인생사가 후일 나온 이 청년과 유사점이 있다. 이렇게 연민을 일으키는 비참한 설정에 풍림화산류 아류에서 차이점이 점점 더 부각되어갔기 때문에 인기도 꽤 있었다. 여러모로 이대로 묻히긴 아까운 캐릭터.

스트리트 파이터 EX2에서 상기의 납득할 수 없는 설정으로 등장한 백발의 카이리는 쉽게 말해 피의 봉인이 풀려버리고 덤으로 살의의 파동까지 눈을 뜬 카이리 정도가 되겠다.(외국쪽에서도 이빌 카이리라고 부르는 경우가 종종 있다.) 흉사연무가 순옥살스럽게 바뀌고, 아수라섬공과 비슷한 이동기가 생겼기에 살의의 파동이라 생각하기 쉬우나, 전혀 틀리므로 주의.

기술은 전형적인 풍림화산류 스타일에 카이리만의 독자적인 슈퍼콤보가 몇 개 추가되었다. 설정상 기억을 잃었을 당시 고우키를 만나 같이 수련한 덕에 고우키의 천마공인각과 참공파동권과 비슷한 필살기를 보유하고 있다.

스파 EX 시절에는 슈퍼콤보의 모션과 성능만 틀릴 뿐이지 실제로는 풍림화산류 캐릭터와 거의 다를 바가 없는 개성 없는 캐릭터였으나 당시 풍림화산류 스타일(일명 파동승룡형)의 캐릭터가 너무 많다는 이유로 후속작인 스파 EX 2 때는 고우키의 아수라섬공같은 특수 이동기와 순옥살 연출처럼 변해버린 흉사연무를 들고 나오면서 완전 고우키의 이미테이션 캐릭터가 되어버린다. 차별화를 위해서인지 시리즈마다 성능이 자잘하게 변해온 건 둘째 쳐도 기술명에 쓸데없을 정도로 평소에는 안 쓰이다시피한 한자들이 많이 들어가 있는데, #작명을​​ 위해 미칠듯이 사전을 찾아댔다는 당시 스탭의 비화가 일품.

캐릭터의 성능을 짤막하게 살펴보자면 스트리트 파이터 EX에서는 외형도 성능도 주인공(!?)스러운 밸런스 스타일이었으나 후속작인 스트리트 파이터 EX 2에선 숨겨진 보스 캐릭터로 등장하면서 보스 캐릭터인 가루다와 함께 강캐로 평가받는다. 하지만 스파 EX 2 Plus에서는 장풍 필살기의 성능과 용도가 변하면서 전법도 완전히 달라지고 만다.


Kairi

Kairi (カイリ?) is a video game character from the Street Fighter EX series, first appearing in the original Street Fighter EX as a secret character. He is Hokuto and Nanase's long lost elder brother from the Mizugami clan.

Kairi appears in Fighting EX Layer, a spiritual successor to the Street Fighter EX games featuring original characters created by Arika for the EX series.


Personality

Kairi is the one can assume that due to his memory-loss and his father's last words, he is a serious warrior who is determined to make sense of himself and his life.

In Street Fighter EX2, Kairi became darker and more serious as a result of his new demonic power. Sometimes, Kairi holds his head in his hands and screams in pain (as seen after performing his Kyouja Renbu attack or his win pose), indicating that his new power is taking a huge toll on his mind.


Concept

During the development of the original Street Fighter EX game, Kairi's look was largely the same except that he had both eyes. He was originally named Shujinkou, which means "protagonist" or "main character", though this was likely a placeholder name.


Fighting style and moveset

Kairi's fighting style is labeled as "Mizugami-ryu Kobujutsu". Most of his moves are similar to those of the Ansatsuken-style characters (i.e., Ryu, Ken, Akuma), as detailed below.

Also, in Street Fighter EX2, Kairi has inherited and succumbed to a power similar to the Satsui no Hado. Because of this, he has abilities and power similar to those of Akuma, and moves that resemble his techniques; (e.g. Zanku Hadoken and Raging Demon, Akuma's most lethal technique). An original ability from this power also exists, as having him surge with this power when his super meter is at Lv.3, allows his attacks to negate any projectiles.

In Fighting EX Layer, Kairi retains all of his moves from the Street Fighter EX series and has some minor changes on his special attacks. His hand gestures to unleash his Shinki Hatsudo resembles both Urien's Metallic Sphere and both Gill's Pyrokinesis and Cryokinesis as his projectile turns into a vacuum blast and his Moryu Kasen now resembles Ken's Tatsumaki Sempukyaku that can hit his opponent four times even in mid-air. His Ryujin Kyaku now serves as his anti-air attack to start a combo on his opponent once it was hit.


Trivia

◾The succumbed version of Kairi is known as Dark Kairi by fans of the series.

◾In Fighting EX Layer, the way Kairi unleashed his Shinki Hatsudo resembles the blasters from Ken "Godhand" Mishima in the Playstation fighting game, Ehrgeiz: God Bless the Ring.

◾In SFEX Kairi shares Ryu's stage, but later in SFEX+ he shares Hokuto's stage instead.

◾In Street Fighter V: Champion Edition, Kairi (in his Fighting EX Layer design) is available as an alternate costume for Ryu.
