An optimal route through City of Thieves. This is the Tin Man Games port, on Hardcore Hero Mode. I'm skimming through just to show the solution, pause if you want to read the story.

There's no hard and fast correct path through this book, as it will involve making strategic choices based on your rolls, but I believe this is the least risky, as it avoids most of the non-mandatory battles and includes only one optional skill test. That skill test (the Bay's ball game) will skip a deadly luck test and a battle if it's successful, so worth doing. Bear in mind though, that if you fail, you'll lose 8 gold pieces.

This route assumes you want the chainmail armour, for a +2 skill boost, but if you start with a good initial skill (10-12) then you could skip the armour. Though there is a mandatory fight with a skill 11 enemy, so having the chainmail is wise whatever your skill. If you have decent luck, use it in that battle for extra damage. All other battles on this route are quite easy.

If you intend to skip the chainmail, then you should comply with the thieves' request to leave 10 gold in the street, as that's safer, but it will mean you can't afford the chainmail. Alternatively, if you want the chainmail, but have low stamina and are worried about dying to the thieves' arrows, you could lose that 10 gold and play the pill game later on (the house with skulls at the door), which is a 5 in 6 chance of winning 20 gold coins, but a 1 in 6 chance of dying. If you have 19 stamina or more and want the chainmail, then you should not drop the money in the street, as you 100% won't die, there'll be plenty of opportunity to replenish your health (shown in the video), don't let the healer do it as he takes your sword and you lose a skill point. Also, don't buy fruit from the barrow boy after the garden, even if your stamina is low, as for some reason that skips the tattoo parlour.

Before firing the silver arrow, drink your potion of fortune, for a plus 1 luck boost.
