A Hippodrome is an Ancient Greek arena for chariot racing. While an Ancient Greco-Roman Arcade Chariot Racer would have been amazing the game doesn’t even have horses or chariots in it. Instead it’s a gladiatorial fighting game that should’ve been called Colosseum. But Data East stand right alongside SNK and Toaplan in having hilariously incongruent English localisations. This is far from their worst mistake when localising games.

Being a fighting game from before Street Fighter II, it’s been regarded rather poorly and its only redeeming qualities are its unique enemies, backgrounds and music which is suitably epic and emotional enough to rouse you into battle. The best tracks here according to me are BGM 1 and the Name Entry themes.
