Fighting Layer [Arcade] - play as Preston Ajax
This is a play-through using Preston Ajax in the Arcade game Fighting Layer. Read on below for more information...
Ajax is a sub-boss and time release character in this game, meaning that he is an unlockable playable character.
===== About Preston Ajax =====
As his design and moves suggests, he seems to be a military guy who has had some kind of scientific cybernetic experiment done on him. He kind of reminds me of Bryan Fury from Tekken.
Gameplay-wise, due to the nature of his special moves, he can be hard to use. If you're great at Counter moves and catching opponents in the air, this character is made for you.
===== About Fighting Layer =====
Fighting Layer is Arika's own 6-button fighting game with their own characters and designs, there are no original Street Fighter characters in this. The game plays somewhat similar to Street Fighter EX, but it's far more flexible as there are side-steps and dashes, and each character's basic moves are very different to each other.
The game has many unique fighting mechanic features, such as the Hard Reversal and Super Elusion. Super Cancels are in too. There is also a move where you can cancel out of ANY strike and fill your entire super gauge up, this can only be used once per round.
Rather uncommonly for a fighting game, when you play in single-player mode, it actually plays your own character's music BGM mostly all the way through the game. The only stages where it doesn't is Stage 3 (against the Knight), Stage 6 (the animal sub-boss), Stage 7 (a hidden character), the Final stage (against Vold), and if you're good enough to reach him, the extra bonus stage (against the purple Knight).
Overall this is a solid game with a decent soundtrack (as you would expect from Arika). Unfortunately due to the fierce competition from other fighting games around at the time, this never stood out. The game was published by Namco.
