Fighting Layer [Arcade] - play as Falcon (playthrough)
This is a play-through using Falcon in the Arcade game Fighting Layer. Read on below for more information...
Falcon is one of the special bonus sub-boss opponents in this game. He seems to be an unplayable character.
===== About Falcon =====
The Falcon is certainly a very unorthodox character to control (as you'd expect from a bird animal character). He is naturally 'flying' or 'floating' the whole time, and he cannot jump or crouch.
Despite being just a bird character, his size is rather large and his special moves inflict huge energy depletion for each strike. His Swoop Grab move (the one where he grabs the opponent, drag flies them up into the air and drops them) is rather amusing indeed.
===== Additional Information =====
---- He only has 1 color palette.
---- He can move/fly out of the confines of the stage area!
---- He does not have a power gauge.
---- His name doesn't appear on the character select screen.
===== About Fighting Layer =====
Fighting Layer is Arika's own 6-button fighting game with their own characters and designs, there are no original Street Fighter characters in this. The game plays somewhat similar to Street Fighter EX, but it's far more flexible as there are side-steps and dashes, and each character's basic moves are very different to each other.
The game has many unique fighting mechanic features, such as the Hard Reversal and Super Elusion. Super Cancels are in too. There is also a move where you can cancel out of ANY strike and fill your entire super gauge up, this can only be used once per round.
Rather uncommonly for a fighting game, when you play in single-player mode, it actually plays your own character's music BGM mostly all the way through the game. The only stages where it doesn't is Stage 3 (against the Knight), Stage 6 (the animal sub-boss), Stage 7 (a hidden character), the Final stage (against Vold), and if you're good enough to reach him, the extra bonus stage (against the purple Knight).
Overall this is a solid game with a decent soundtrack (as you would expect from Arika). Unfortunately due to the fierce competition from other fighting games around at the time, this never stood out. The game was published by Namco.
