Final Fantasy 16 : The Best in the Series
Final Fantasy 16 or Final Fantasy XVI is the best in the series and one of the best JRPGs ever made, if not THE best. Let's dive into why!
Is Final Fantasy 16 the best jrpg ever made? Is it the best Final Fantasy in the series? Was Final Fantasy 16 the magnum opus of the entire Final Fantasy series? Let's dive into this, and as a rabid Final Fantasy fan who absolutely adores the series as a whole, I have been playing Final Fantasy 16 since release like a wild animal, and I've enjoyed every second of it. Now the series of Final Fantasy is long and the beautiful thing about it, is that Final Fantasy means something different to each fan. To me, Final Fantasy has always been two things : Beautiful worlds and Awesome Stories. Because of Final Fantasy on the NES, I became a fan of RPGs in general : You could say that my entire channel wouldn't exist without the Final Fantasy series because even for MMOs : Final Fantasy 11 and Final Fantasy 14 both brought me in their own ways to making content on YouTube. With my definition of what Final Fantasy is, let's talk about Final Fantasy 16 and how I think this really is, the ultimate release for the entire series.
Final Fantasy has always been about change, about innovating combat, about telling brand new stories, introducing us to brand new worlds, and inviting us to love the characters they present to us. I went into Final Fantasy 16 hoping it would be a masterpiece, but worried about the changes : Could I really accept this as a JRPG and a Final Fantasy while having control over one character in an action-based combat system? Would the characters hold me to the end, would the story grip me and be something I contemplate and want to revisit every so often throughout my life as some of the classics do? The answer is YES, Final Fantasy 16 tells an intense story, I won't be spoiling any of it in this video, but you can expect some very dramatic and drop your jaw kind of moments on a consistent basis with Final Fantasy 16, you can expect twists and turns in the plot and mouth-breathing cinematics that will both warm your heart and break it into pieces. The story is raw and real, it emulates war and the cost of fighting back, the suffering of peoples in such a believable and immersive way, that once you start your journey, you are sure to finish it. And long after the credits, you will be remembering the characters, the journey you took and the decisions that were made to bring it to it's climax.
Final Fantasy 16's most controversial features are some of it's strongest : The combat isn't something like Elden Ring's and it's not like Devil May Cry either, no matter what some people may say, it is it's own, and I hope more gaming companies take note : It's simple, but it's complex if you want it to be, it can be punishing if you want it to be, but it can be easy if you want it to be. The addition of items to make combat easier makes Final Fantasy 16 accessible, but go without them and you will find a challenge, but not an overly difficult challenge. And after you have defeated the game, you can play again and crank the difficulty up even further which I certainly plan to do, because I genuinly love the combat. This isn't something I expected to say either, because I'm a turn-based combat lover, but I can see that for the pace of this story, for this world, for this to feel this immersive, we needed this exact combat system and I wouldn't change a thing.
