Final Fantasy IV (known as Final Fantasy II also) is a Jrpg released for the Super Famicom in Japan in 1991. It was Developed and Published by Square (now Square-Enix) and subsequent enhanced releases followed a few years later.

STORY: 14/20
You are Cecil, a Dark Knight in charge of an empire imperial air fleet. You are ordered by the King of your nation to fetch Crystals from around the world by any means necessary. Sick of all the bloodshed, Cecil defies orders and goes on the run after saving a girl from a village where he had killed her mother and destroyed her town, he vows to protect her. As you travel the world you are hounded by the King's army in search of the girl. As crystals are collected you are thrown into a quest to save the world of an invisible force pulling the strings of puppets.

GRAPHICS: 14/20
The game's graphics are not BRILLIANT but it's what you'd expect from a game on the Super Famicom/Nintendo in 1991. I much prefer this game's character designs to FF5's character designs though. Spells look nice, each unique, monster graphics and character designs are okay, and areas all look okay.

SOUND: 18/20
I love this game's music, especially the most famous one, Celtic Moon. Though there's many F.F. games that have amazing OSTs.. this one is certainly one of my Favourites. The game's sound effects are okay, nothing fantastic or outstanding but it does the job of being what it should. Spells, animations are all okay sounding though the casting of magic, summons, etc does tend to get a little much by half way through the game.

GAMEPLAY: 16/20
Pretty much, travel the world in order to find a way to protect the worlds crystals and Rydia, the girl you protect at the beginning of the game. Battles are fast with plenty of monsters to battle. Magics, summoning, secrets to find, secret summons, menus that are easy to navigate, and more. If your used to playing other early F.F. games then you'll fit right in with this one and know the systems used pretty much from the start.

SYSTEMS: 16/20
As with many F.F. games you can come to expect there to be a lot of systems within the game, magic systems, summoning, class systems, save system, battle system, are to name but a few, there's enough here to keep you content but to me it seems to be lacking something that I can't quite put my finger on.

OVER ALL: 78/100
The game is not a bad one, though it certainly has a bit of a weaker story compared to later versions. People love this game and it's one of the only earlier F.F. games to actually get a sequel years later on other systems. Do I recommend this game? YES! though I WILL say this, with all the various version, IF you are not worried about 2D or 3D graphics then i'd recommend the PSP FFIV Complete version instead.
