In some of the most surprising news of the year - reports indicate that Final Fantasy IX is being turned into a kid's animated series.

Kid's entertainment trade publication Kidscreen is reporting that Paris-based Cyber Group Studios is working with Square Enix to develop a series target at 8-13 year olds. Cyber Group will handled production, distribution, licensing and merchandise. They have previously worked with Square Enix on a kid's cartoon adaptation of IO Interactive's Mini Ninjas. Cyber Group CEO Pierre Sissmann says the goal is to begin production by the end of 2021 or early 2022. While Final Fantasy has seen animated adaptations and original animated series in the past - this will be the first FFIX adaptation since the game's release in 2000.
