Once you have gold equipment (and maybe some HP/stat upgrades) you can go through the tower, it shouldn't be terribly difficult even if you don't have strength or HP improvements.

Once you feel confident you can make it through the tower you can go, don't worry about stats too much yet, you will have plenty of money after you get to the second world and the monsters there will also give more money. (Making it easier to buy them)
