Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster
Final Fantasy I | Part 1: The Journey Starts
Before I begin with this, product provided in this video by Square-Enix. I mentioned this already, but I may as well do it anyway. Back in 2021, I did small videos of me taking on bosses from the first six Final Fantasy games. Of course, they were from the Pixel Remasters. It took Square-Enix two years to finally bring them to consoles and sadly, their reasoning as to why they didn't do it sooner is the most bs excuse. I may love Square-Enix and their games but I question their business practices. I am not a fan of them. At all.
But anyway, welcome to the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster. This consists of a collection of six Final Fantasy that have been remade as they were originally intended. People were excited for it, only to find that they limited their releases to PC and mobile. That was back in 2021-22. Fans wanted this to come to consoles, but Square-Enix made a reasoning so stupid that it baffles me why they are still alive. They said that if there's a demand for it, it'll happen. There WAS a demand but they botched it so hard it makes you wonder why they keep fumbling up every time. We'll never know.
The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster basically takes the original six Final Fantasy games and give them a pixelized coat of paint. From my experience, I say that they are playable and pretty solid. The only highlight for me is the music as composer Nobuo Uematsu returns to deliver soundtracks like never before. It is truly magnificent how this guy still got it after so many years. But I'm getting ahead of myself so let's actually start.
We begin with the first game, the one that is responsible for saving Square from bankruptcy. This is Final Fantasy. Released on December 18, 1987 for the Nintendo Famicom. It tells the story of a world that is slowly heading to hell. The winds stop blowing. The lands rot. The waters at a standstill. Everything is just awful. But then a prophecy foretells that four young heroes, each holding a crystal would bring light back to this world and drive the darkness away. Fun fact: Dragon Quest was the impetus for Final Fantasy's creation.
I can go on and on about its history, but I recommend checking out a YouTuber named Andrew Bluett. He has a detailed retrospective on Final Fantasy that I highly recommend. I kid you not. I'll leave a link here: https://youtu.be/VSq-ywmn_so for you to watch.
Final Fantasy lets you make your own party of four characters with six different classes to choose form: Warrior, Monk (Black Belt), Thief, Red Mage, White Mage and Black Mage. You use said party to go through a journey of driving the darkness away and saving the world. In the original, it followed a style similar to Dungeons & Dragons. For its time, it was revolutionary but nowadays it's too archaic. Later revisions would help improve and streamline the game. If I were to make a recommendation, I would choose Dawn of Souls for GBA or the 20th anniversary PSP version. Just saying.
My team consists of a Warrior, Thief, White Mage and Black Mage. And in Part 1, we grind up, kick Garland's sorry butt, save the princess then head up north so that we beat down more pirates and get a ship. That's going to be needed for the trials ahead.
See you in Part 2.
