Final Fantasy II | Part 9: The Empire Strikes Back from Hell

Despite having obtained Ultima, it's not enough. The Emperor is now ready to bring destruction to all who oppose him. It's now up to Firion and his team to stop him.
With the Wyvern, they enter into the cyclone only to find a palace inside. Now Firion and his team must venture this whirling palace and stop him before he ravages Fynn.
Before I explain what happens next, I want to detail about Ultima. Sakaguchi originally wanted Ultima to be a powerful tome that only gets stronger, the more the user learned and mastered spells. If it was given to a party member that uses lots of spells it would deal major damage, but if it was given to someone that knew no magic, it would do little damage. That was his intention but Nasir Gebelli had his own way of thinking. Basically there's a bug in the original FF2 where Ultima would be outright useless. It would deal around 500 points of damage regardless of how many spells the user learned or mastered, including Ultima. His reasoning was that a spell like Ultima that was powerful back then would seem useless from a modern perspective. He believed that the struggle to obtain Ultima only to find that it's useless would mirror real life. Thus he made it as it was. When Sakaguchi found out, he was pissed. He asked Gebelli for the code to fix it only to find that Gebelli ciphered it so that only he can fix it. Gebelli wouldn't budge and Sakaguchi, realizing that he can't fire him due to his usefulness and his reasoning, he left it in the final game as is. Thankfully, in later iterations of FF2, it works as it should be.
But anyway, Firion and his crew venture through the Floating Palace and they ultimately confront the Emperor. After a few battles, they face Emperor Mateus and kill him. Peace is returned to the world... or is it? Turns out the Dark Knight has claimed the Empire. It gets worse when they learned that it's Leon. Now they need to head for the Palace. Before they do, they meet with Paul who's tending to Cid. Turns out Cid got wounded trying to get people out of there when the Cyclone hit. Before he dies, he entrusts his airship to us. His only condition is that he takes care of it until he recovers. Sadly he ain't recovering from this. A damn shame.
Firion and his team use Cid's airship to reach Castle Palamecia. As they do so, they venture through the castle and face it's many dangers. Ultimately they encounter Leon who is now Emperor. He plans to use the Empire as a means of survival of the fittest. Only the strong can survive and the weak are pushed aside. Firion and Leon are ready to fight but from out of nowhere, the Emperor appears. He has become monstrous and after having taken down Satan, he has become the lord of hell. And now he plans to ravage the land with his destructive power.
In a last ditch effort, Ricard buys the party time by using the Wyvern to escape. They do so. Ricard dies as Castle Palamecia has been replaced by the Palace of Hell itself, Pandemonium. Back at Fynn, Firion and his team explain the situation but Hilda notices Leon. They explain everything and insists that Leon join the group. She allows it. Leon joins and now there's only one place to go, the Jade Passage.
The world is in danger of the Emperor of Hell. Part 10 is where their last gambit begins. We head for the Jade Passage.
