Final Fantasy Origins Complete Video Walkthrough / Let's Play

Part #02: Pravoca

"And so their journey began. As warriors of light, the four youths faced a staggering mission and a stormy destiny. The four crystals they carried remained a mystery to them... In ages past, those crystals had radiated a dazzling light. The time for heroes is at hand. Darkness must be banished so the light of peace can illuminate the world once more."

We set forth on our journey, to the town of Pravoca in the East. But first, we make a pit stop at Matoya's cave, and fight our first Ogre! We'll be seeking this OG purple enemy for his exp/gil rewards.

In Pravoca, we check out the equipment and magic shops as well as fight some pink-haired pirates for a free ship. However, before setting sail, we need to train up a bit more; the monsters only get more dangerous from here on out.

Final Fantasy Origins (PSX)

This is a remake of Final Fantasy (NES). It's mostly a graphical/sound remastering with a few additional features, some minor interface adjustments, and bugfixes. Origins is true to the original when it comes to gameplay.

Version Differences:
- 16 bit(ish) graphics
- mp3 audio
- New translation
- New FMV sequences
- Normal Mode: original game.
- Easy Mode: Dawn of Souls / Anniversary Edition babby mode.
- Collection: Bestiary, Item Collection, Art Book, and Photos.
- Extra settings: Auto Target, Dash, Battle Support (revive/cure petrify in battle), Button Info (battle UI)
- Memo Save Feature
- Misc bug fixes

One thing that Origins has added here is an option for “EasyMode”. It changes many gameplay elements to make things quite breezy: you level up faster, gain stats more quickly, spells and equipment are cheaper to buy, the maximum level is increased from 50 to 99, and the amount of magic points your characters have is increased tenfold. Easy might be a good choice if you're new to these kinds of games, but “NormalMode” is just like the original NES version, and that's what I'll be playing on.

The remakes that came after this one, such as Dawn of Souls (GBA) and the Anniversary Edition (PSP), have adopted "EasyMode" as the new baseline for gameplay, without option otherwise, which is why Origins is my preferred version of Final Fantasy; it looks and sounds great, its interface is more user-friendly than the NES version's, and the gameplay remains as it was originally intended.

Bless the crystals!
