Story recap: A new meteor falls near Walz tower. The party stops a rampaging beast who was heading for the water crystal, only to see the crystal shatter anyway. The tower sinks, and Hydra, still alive after Torna canal, uses the last of his strength to save them.

Investigating the Walz meteor further, they find that it contains a warp point that leads to another meteor that fell near Karnak. Having been seen emerging from the meteor, they get arrested in Karnak on suspicion of being monsters. In jail, they meet Cid, the engineer who built the crystal amplifying machines, who had been locked up for trying to turn off the machine.

The castle's chancellor arrives and releases Cid, telling him that cracks were appearing in the crystal. The machine had been turned off, but the crystal continued gaining power. Cid thinks this is because of the fire ship, a watercraft made to sail without wind by drawing power from the crystal. He insists to the chancellor that the party be released, and they enter the fire ship to shut down the engine.

In the engine room, they find the queen of Karnak, possessed by some force, which summons a living flame monster to attack them. Defeating the monster destroys the fire ship's engine and returns the queen to her senses. She tells them that the destruction of the crystals has nothing to do with the machines, so they hurry to the crystal room via the pipe connecting the ship to it. Once again, the crystal shatters. Since Castle Karnak was held together by the fire crystal, it explodes shortly later, with the party narrowly escaping in time to outrun the blast.
