Previously, Terra and Locke arrived at Figaro Castle and met King Edgar. We also met the nutty Kefka. After a scrape with Kefka's forces, Edgar, Terra, and Locke fled through the South Figaro Cave to the town of South Figaro. After supplying, the party checked out Duncan's Cabin near town. Now, they will make their way through Mt. Kolts on their way to the Returners' Hideout.
Overworld:
The party resumes near the main entrance to Mt. Kolts. They enter this new area.
Mt. Kolts (time 0:29):
Mt. Kolts is a straightforward mountain area. The enemy types available in this area are Zaghrem, Trillium, Gorgias, and Cirpius. Auto Crossbow and Fire remain effective in random battles, but someone may have to follow up with a physical attack or two.
The party starts on the western slope. To the north, they enter the first cave on floor 1F.
They take the eastern exit from the cave and arrive on a ledge.
Edgar reaches Level 9.
To the east, the party enters the second cave on 2F. This cave has a few exits.
First, the party takes the southern exit from the 2F cave. On the ledge outside, they open a chest for a Main Gauche, a type of dagger. Locke equips this.
Back in the 2F cave, the party heads north. The terrain partly hides a route leading northeast.
In the chamber to the northeast, a chest contains a Gigas Glove relic. This claims to boost the wearer's physical attack power. Edgar equips it.
The party returns to the main 2F cave.
Terra reaches Level 8. Locke reaches Level 9.
In the northwest of the main 2F cave, the party exits back out to the mountain. You may begin noticing someone shadowing the party at this point. To the north, the party takes an exit. They arrive at the northeastern part of the mountain's exterior.
To the south and west, they enter the third cave on floor 3F. They take the path south to a ledge. The chest here contains a Tent.
The party backtracks through the third cave and outside. They take the cave entrance to the west.
The party arrives in the fourth cave on floor 2F. They follow the path east, north, and east and outside.
The party emerges outside. To the north, they go east across the bridge.
The party enters the fifth cave on floor 3F. This is a rest area with a save point. To save gil, rather than using a Tent, the player can use Terra's MP to restore the party and then recover her with a Sleeping Bag. In any event, it is an excellent idea to heal up and save before continuing.
The party continues east to a winding pathway outside. As they near the cave to the exit, a brief scene takes place. Someone is waiting.
Edgar reaches Level 10.
Terra reaches Level 9.
The party recovers before they talk to the man at the exit.
When they talk to the man at the exit, a scene takes place. The man is Vargas, and he is not very friendly.
Boss time against Vargas! He comes with two bears called Ipoohs. The party must defeat the Ipoohs before they can target Vargas, but Vargas will still be able to attack them. Vargas can damage the entire party with Gale Cut. Locke can steal Hi-Potions from the Ipoohs. Edgar's Auto Crossbow will cut the Ipoohs down in a few rounds.
Once the Ipoohs are defeated, the party can target Vargas. After a few rounds, a scene takes place and Sabin appears.
After the scene, Sabin must go mano a mano against Vargas. Vargas has put Doom on Sabin. Sabin must use the Blitz ability Raging Fist to win. A tutorial will explain how to use Blitz.
When Sabin has defeated Vargas, another scene takes place. Sabin joins the party in the fight against the Empire.
Given my party's levels, Sabin the Monk joins at Level 11. He comes equipped with a set of Metal Knuckles, a Leather Cap, and a Kenpo Gi. He equips a spare Buckler, Silver Spectacles, and Hermes Sandals.
Sabin's special abilities are Blitz attacks. At Level 11, he has Raging Fist, Aura Cannon, and Meteor Strike. Meteor Strike was known as Suplex in the Super NES release, and yes, its classic usage is still relevant in this release. Note that Sabin's Blitzes are powered up by the Magic stat rather than Strength. They are also equally effective regardless of his row.
The party continues through the doorway to the sixth cave on floor 1F. The nearby chest to the south contains a Tent. At this point, the party has opened all four chests in Mt. Kolts.
To the east, the party goes downstairs and outside. They have reached the other side of Mt. Kolts. They continue south and exit to the Overworld.
The description is continued in the comments.
