First off Make sure Banon is in the back row or you just straight up lose when he gets hit by tentacle. He has an ink attack that can hit hard and a Multi Tentacle attack as well. Fire does a lot of damage but can prompt a counter. His single strike tentacle does devastating damage to whomever it hits and he'll give a callout.
Ugly Mug = Banon
Muscle Heads = Sabin
Tasty little Morsel = Terra
The last one is Edgars.
Banon should only ever defend or Use Pray and that callout is your chance to have a character defend if you're quick enough.
This is one of the hardest required bosses in the game and easily the hardest pre Magicite boss of the game, I would say it's the hardest boss in the first half of the game if Ultima weapon didn't exist but it does.
