Story recap: Gerad and his gang leave town, and Celes follows to the South Figaro cave. Following a new tunnel in the cave leads her into Figaro castle via the prison. Figaro's citizens aren't in great shape, having been stuck underground for some time, as well as being attacked by sandworms. Celes catches up with Gerad in the castle's engine room. He sends the thieves ahead to loot the treasure while he deals with the monster wrapped around the engine. With the thieves out of the room, Gerad finally acknowledges that he is Edgar, and asks for Celes's help in the fight. They ward off the monster, let the thieves think they died in the battle and leave with their booty, and join together to continue searching for the rest of their friends.

With the engine fixed, Figaro takes the party to Kohlingen, where they find Setzer moping around in the pub. After a pep talk from Celes, he agrees to join the fight, and suggests they head to Daryl's tomb - the burial site of his old friend and rival. Daryl was the owner of the Falcon, the only airship in the world other than the Blackjack. The Falcon crashed long ago, and Setzer had spent some considerable time restoring it and putting it to rest alonside Daryl. He couldn't bear to look at it, but now that such a great need has arisen, it may just be the thing that saves them all. The party sets off with their new wings to find the rest of their companions.

Celes spots a carrier pigeon flying toward Maranda, and on a hunch, they visit the town to investigate. A woman in town has been receiving correspondence and silk flowers from her boyfriend in Mobliz - someone the party happens to know is dead. The handwriting on the letter looks a lot like Cyan's, and other talk around the town hints at his presence. At her request, they send a letter back, and follow the carrier pigeon to the Zozo area. Climbing the nearby Mt. Zozo, they find an area with the same flowers that were sent to Lola, and a letter on the table from Cyan confessing that he was the one writing in her boyfriend's place. Cyan is embarrassed to have been caught with what he was doing, but is happy to join the group again anyway.

As he joins, Cyan mentions that he encountered Gau when he was last in Maranda. Gau had mentioned needing to become stronger to fight Kefka, so the party sets off for the Veldt to search. They find him among the monsters, and he rejoins the group as though nothing had ever happened. Inside a cave on the Veldt, they happen upon Interceptor, who leads them deeper into the cave to an injured Shadow. After fighting off the monster that had injured him, they take him back to Thamasa to rest.
