Final Fantasy Video Walkthrough Part 3 - Garland
He knocked one of us down. Does that count:
Commentary:
0:04 - I leveled up to 3 and got some gold while off-screen. Grinding is just so boring to watch, I avoid recording it whenever possible. You can do this next part at level 2 or even 1, but 3 is the recommended level. Note the 2nd level spell slots, but we can't learn them yet.
0:20 - Some more spells. HARM for ABNO, LIT and SLEP for KAOS.
0:50 - Finally, the item shop. The types of items you can get in this game is pretty limited. Heal potions are essentially usable CURE spells. Pure potions cure Poison status. Tents recover a small amount of HP to the party and save the game on the world map. I get a Pure and 2 Heals, just in case. Buying stuff one at a time in this game is a serious pain in the ass...Heal and Pure potions are the only things I buy offscreen (do you really want to watch it?)
2:22 - This is the Temple of Fiends. Save outside this place if you don't feel confident yet (with a Tent). By the way, terrain does not affect the rate of enemy encounters.
2:29 - Instead of going straight up, take a detour left. Bones are just skeletons. Imps without skin. Barely worth the effort, and they can hit hard. They're Undead, which means they take damage from HARM spells and extra damage from Fire, but have a few immunities.
2:55 - Cap is armor. You may be tempted to give it to the person in front, but odds are your second-line person may need it more. I'd give it to them unless they also have chain shirt on.
3:14 - Ghouls are also undead, and they have a nasty ability to paralyze with their attacks. They're also tougher than any other enemy met so far. Definitely time to break out the HARM spell.
3:46 - GrWolves are tougher Wolves (about 80 HP). I probably should have run, but I wanted to try out the SLEP spell. While it doesn't always work on every enemy, it takes away one round, and one round of not being beat on can make a huge difference. Until you get large elemental damage spells, make use of SLEP on large weak packs of enemies. Or just run.
6:09 - This is why I occasionally fight wolfpacks at this stage...very good XP. Later on, so not worth it.
6:19 - Cabins are Tents that restore more HP. Heal Potions you know about.
6:47 - Yeah, not this time. Running away is supposed to be a function of your luck, but it's glitched. I can't remember exactly how, but the top 2 members have an easier time, the bottom two have a harder time, and a dead party member 2 spaces below you make it automatic (assuming you can run). If one member is sucessful running, they all escape. Run away when you're outmatched, when the enemies aren't worth the reward for defeating, or when you're trying to conserve HP and spells for a boss.
7:03 - Ah, the phrase that launched a thousand parodies. Silly Garland. By the way, I love the music in this place.
7:08 - Garland is the first boss, and he's not hard at all. If you can cast a damage spell, cast it, otherwise just whack him.
7:24 - Oooo. Every so often he gets a lucky punch in. This is rare, though. Dead party members need to be revived with a LIFE spell or in town (no Fenix Downs for you!). Dead party members do not gain experience.
8:11 - Kaching! Again, this EXP reward is only divided three ways.
8:17 - Yes. You're a bat. Please move.
8:24 - This always irritated me. If she could do this, why didn't she do it to escape Garland? Oh well, saves a trip back to town. You can go back and look at the Black Orb there if you want, it just foreshadows.
8:30 - He was probably gonna build that bridge anyways. Bastard.
8:37 - Hey, a Lute. Do we have a bard? No? Well, it beast a bridge.
9:23 - Ah, so it's not so useless. We'll keep an eye out for evil gates.
9:29 - Every key item has a description. I hope I remember to show them all.
10:26 - The Clinic revives dead party members for a fee. They come back with 1 HP, so always hit the clinic before the inn. I talk to a few more people, then I need to cut it off before we go to the inn because of the 10:59 limit.
