54:08 - Gi Nattak

Now we enter the dungeon area of the Cosmo Canyon. For majority of it, we'll only be using Barret and Red XIII. The only time we get to actually run around as Red XIII for an extended period of time. The enemies are pretty easy to overpower in this part so it's not much of an issue just having two party members, but the Gi Lancers, Gi Archers, and Gi Sorcerers can pose a challenge. Gi Archers fire multiple arrows at once and each one has a hit box so if you get hit by them all you can suddenly take a lot of damage from them. Also they can petrify. Lancers are pretty standard to fight. Sorcerers are annoying because they usually dodge attacks unless they're casting or resurrecting a fallen Gi.

At the end of the dungeon we fight Gi Nattak. He has some standard attacks and some unorthodox ones that don't show up elsewhere. He can absorb HP and MP from the party, and inflict the ever menacing Doom ailment towards the end of the fight when he's low on HP, which puts a strict timer on the fight. He summons adds throughout the fight that will disappear into statues and then hit you with a debuff if left unchecked. Midway, he drops a whole bunch of adds, but Barret's Smackdown, Red's Stardust Nova, or any attack magic materia with Magnify can take down most of them in one go. Also, his Assess info doesn't tell you this, but if his adds reach the statue while Doom is cast, it seems to automatically trigger and wipe the party. At least, that's what happened to me when I fought him on Hard and wanted to just rush him down during his last phase lol.

After the boss, we'll have a brief moment where we run around as Zack, and then a brief moment while we run around the Gi Village with the rest of the party back. There's no other boss or anything ,we just fight a few more Gi Specters along the way and learn about the Black Materia.
