5We start with winning the chocobo race that gets us our freedom. At least Gus is true to his word and does let us go. The chocobo racing in this game is basically just straight up Mario Kart. Not as in-depth of course, but there is a surprising amount of work put into it. There's dozens of courses you can run at Gold Saucer after this.
Anyways, once we're free and all together again, we can now go after Barret. We run into him pretty quick, and then he meets up with Dyne and quickly has a boss fight against him at around 38:25 .
Dyne is a one-on-one fight you can only use Barret for. Definitely want him to have a healing materia equipped. And Assess, if you wanted to Assess Dyne. Dyne is probably the most easy enemy to miss Assessing since not many people will think to have Barret using the Assess materia. Also, Barret's spoken battle dialogue is all changed for this fight.
Dyne has 3 phases, one where he just fires at Barret and uses a few skills. Phase 2 he starts placing mines and using moves that can destroy the cover Barret can hide behind. Phase 3, Dyne will get really creative and start using the surrounding junk to attack with a giant junk-comprised flail or spawn junk tendrils from the ground. Apparently he can just do these things, sure, why not.

After Dyne's defeated, the Turks arrive to come after the party, so Cloud and others go to deal with them. Here we have a boss fight against Palmer, piloting a giant frog mech. Flipping it over with big attacks like Limit Breaks and Synergy attacks can make it vulnerable, and apparently if you hit Palmer with heavy attacks while he's taunting it'll pressure him but I don't think I managed that. Not a very difficult fight, just kind of awkward.
After that, we get a mini-game where Barret shoots down the Shinra troops chasing us as we try to get away. I'm terrible at it. Then we can start exploring the desert around the Gold Saucer and Cait Sith joins the party. I'll talk more about him later.
