This is a linear portion of the game, which is fine. I can't say I expected much else. Even the Midgar section of the original is linear. I started this session dreading, what I guessed would be, another boss battle. I don't like boss battles. I feel a game can get formulaic when at the end of each section, there's a boss battle. This happened with the original. I knew a boss battle was going to happen, dreading it so much, I stopped playing the game. To be fair, I was only planning to play through the Midgar section.

What was interesting about the battle with the Airbuster, was you had options on how you were going to weaken it to give you an edge. This entailed a lot of strategies. There were three different capabilities the Airbuster has, you could choose to remove some of them with keycards you found in the rooms you were battling. I don't know exactly what I would have done differently but I removed all 3 M units, 2 of the 3 BBs, and none of the AI Programming Cores. Part of me wonders if it would have been better to remove the AI Programming Cores. I don't know. Maybe I'll watch a video where someone does something different to see if the result changes.

This Remake is getting really stretched out. I am about 9.5 hours in, and the original's Midgar section took me roughly 8 hours. Even though there is some filler I am still having a fun time with the game. Combat is still fun, though I am struggling to keepo track of where I'm attacking and whom I'm attacking. Sometimes I'll just find myself swinging my sword at nothing and taking damage. That's just annoying.
