In this episode I continue advancing the story. As Tifa, Aerith, and Red XIII, I access the elevator that Hojo made accessible upon defeating the Swordipede. The elevator takes Tifa and co. to The Drum's 4th Ward where they are able to reunite with Cloud and Barret. With the party whole again, the group uses the elevator a second time and are able to return to the top level of The Drum where they met Sephiroth outside of Jenova's pod. The group observes that Jenova is now absent and elect to continue their journey upwards in an effort to reach the Avalanche evacuation helicopter that supposedly awaits them on the top floor of the Shinra Building. While doing so, they observe an ominous trail of purple, bubbling ooze that they seem to have no choice to follow as they continue upwards. The party eventually arrives arrives at the top floor that consists of the president's office. While there they can hear a voice pleading for help. The party is eventually able to locate the voice and observe that it belongs to President Shinra. After some coaxing from his comrades, Barret elects to save the president's life as he pleads with the party to save him from plummeting to his death from the top floor of the Shinra Building. In exchange for saving his life, Barret attempts to negotiate his terms with the president in return for the favor; namely, he wants the president to clear Avalanche's name on television as well as provide the truth to the public on Shinra's involvement in the destruction of Midgar Sector 7. The president scoffs at Barret's request and pulls a gun on him the moment he has the chance to do so. Right before the president is able to pull the trigger on Barret Sephiroth appears and murders him. Enraged at the outcome, Barret attempts to assault Sephiroth who then attempts to murder him as well. The remainder of the party becomes aware that Sephiroth and Jenova are the source of the ooze that they followed through the Shinra Building's upper floors. Sephiroth sics Jenova on the remaining party members and seemingly retreats during the party's battle with her. After the battle the party is relieved to observe that one of the mysterious "whispers" the party has repeatedly encountered was able to shield Barret from an untimely death at the hands of Sephiroth. As Barret comes to, Cloud attempts to pursue Sephiroth. When Cloud has presumably cornered Sephiroth he observes him transform into one of the ominous men in black robes that he has met a few times before during his journey through Midgar. Before Cloud can confront the man further he seemingly jumps to his death from the top of the Shinra Bulding giving Cloud no opportunity to pursue the matter further. I end the episode shortly after that and with the intention of reuniting with the party to board the Avalanche evacuation chopper to escape the Shinra Building in the next episode.
