Final Fantasy X (Lowest Turn Count) Ep. 33 - Yu Yevon
8Alright, I gotta be honest. In all of the preparation I did all game long, I spent 0 time preparing for this fight. However, I can say a few things went my way. My Laziness really saved me a bunch of turns here. First, but not getting the 3 secret Aeons, I saved turns by not having to fight 3 more fights. Also, by not doing any of the Belgemine fights, I saved turns in those fights, but I also avoided getting the Aeon's Soul, which would have allowed me to boost my summons stats. I could have potentially lost turns in this fight because I boosted their stats too high for Dark matter to kill them in one turn.
I also saved turns because I didn't get any of the Ultimate Weapons. This unlocks their break Damage limits, and could have made things harder.
I did make one mistake. The first time I got here, I only had 1 dark matter. I went into BFA with only 3, thinking I wouldn't need any. It's been a long time since I've fought Yu Yevon, so I didn't really know what i was getting myself into. I immediately recognized I was going to need more Dark Matter, so I went back and got myself 20. I ultimately didn't need all of them, but I wasn't sure.
So I redid the BFA fight and now I'm back. Each Aeon can die to a single Dark matter, which is nice.
For Yu Yevon, we have to worry about 1 thing. He counters EVERY attack with a Curaga for 9999. This basically undoes any attack we throw at him. Thankfully, I realized this the first time I made it here, and I realized i had a weapon with Zombie Strike for Lulu, I don't remember where I got it from, but I think it must have been from auto-leveling in Omega Ruins because it had 3 empty slots on it. This turns those Curagas into 9999 damage, helping us tremendously.
This bring my final Turn count to 224 turns.
Now then, let's discuss where I can save turns in the run. Apparently I can save 1 turn in Zanarkand at the start of the game. Some speedrun strat that I missed, Additionally, I discovered late in the game, that by fleeing 600 battles, I boost my aeons stats considerably, if I had done this at the very start of the game in Besaid, I think I can 1 shot, Sin Fin, Sinspawn Geneaux and Possible 2 shot Chocobo Eater. And then I think there's a possible turn I can save had I swapped in Kimahri against BFA, to do the final Dark Matter. That way I could have swapped Lulu in at the very start to use zombie strike right away.
And then there's more possible turns I could maybe save if I filled out the entire sphere grid. It would have been entirely time consuming, but I think with teleport spheres, it could potentially save turns.
If I could do 1 thing differently, I would have tried harder to get Slice and Dice with Tidus. I think that might have potential too.
It's time to move onto FF8, which I'm not excited for, God save me.
