Final Fantasy XIII - Any% Strategy - Elixirless Orphan 1
Elixir on Orphan 1 is what is intended in Any%, but sometimes you have to throw that second Elixir in a previous fight in order to survive (e.g., Bart2, PC2, Bart3), since dying is generally slower than not dying. Without an Elixir, one has to modify the first half of the fight so as to not use any TP. This means no Quakes and no Renews. The former is fine to lose, since arguably Quake is not necessary. The latter is upsetting, since now one must utilize Vanille's Medic far more than previously necessary.
The pattern I employ here is great in that three things get accomplished simultaneously:
1. The party gets buffed;
2. Vanille provides the healing she needs to do;
3. Orphan is chained to roughly 250% before debuffing starts.
The pattern is simple:
1. After Orphan takes an action, shift to Tireless Charge.
2. RAV-buffer a Blitz into Tri-disaster.
3. Cast Fire-Thunder and shift into Protection.
4. Buff two more things.
The Medic action in Protection and Tireless Charge give you the healing that you need to counter Orphan's slaps. Being in Protection when slaps occur provides necessary damage reduction to survive. The RAV-buffered Blitz and the Fire-Thunder, in conjunction to whatever Snow and Vanille can do in that short time, is enough to get the chain to roughly 250% once buffing finishes, which is good enough to start debuffing (if you try debuffing before that point, you run the risk of debuffs not lasting long enough over the course of the fight). The rest proceeds almost as normal, except there is no Elixir that can be thrown, so you must keep an eye on HP while waiting for debuffs to get inflicted.
This video is more an example of the ideal fight, since all the debuffs were inflicted pre-stagger, which is rare. Still, it serves to demonstrate the pattern necessary to be able to pull off the elixirless fight.
